Official word right is if wind does not calm down by 12:30PM the meet will be called. There is a nasty storm coming this way with high winds, heavy rain and lightning in Elko at the moment and coming this way.
October 5, 2007 Noon
We have been on wind hold for about 2 hours now. They were letting vehicles run short course only for a bit due to 20 mph side winds on far end. Weather seems to be getting worse, lots of clouds rolling across the mountains. And it's damn cold. SCTA-BNI has picked up most everything except on long course area for running. There is about 15 vehicles in line wanting to run just waiting on wind.
October 5, 2007 Mid-Morning
Even though high winds in Wendover, just a breeze with occasional gust of winds on the salt. They are still running, combining short and long course to the long course. There is just a handfull of people here still running. The Spal Pickup guys are getting my vote for Dedicated Racer Award for the meet. Cold temps and the wind that come up these guys have the front end off the truck and swapping motors. They are a determined group of racers. There have been talk today that it may be the last day of racing. NOT until the meet director call's the meet, but there has been talk about it.
October 5, 2007 Morning
Temps cold and getting getting colder. High winds thru the night and into the morning. Sustained 15-20 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph. A few rain drops here and there. Haven't made my way to the salt yet, still drumming up enough courage to go outside at the moment, just looks nasty.
I would like to thank Clay Taylor for all the high speed photography from yesterday. He did an outstanding job and excellent pictures.
October 4, 2007 Afternoon
Because of weather coming in record returns started at 4 pm but weren’t very productive. All runs were facing a 9 mph headwind.
- Doug Kenny re-qualified in C/SR at 208 mph and had a spin in the last mile
- C/PS Dennis Lindberg Mustang Cobra got his qualifier at 213 mph on 206 record and backed up at 212 mph.
- D/GR with Alan Fogliadini driving qualified at 218 mph on the 216 mph record and backed up at 218.236 mph
- Paul Livingston had a down run of 194.9 mph on a 191 mph record in the MPS-G class and backed up at 187 mph. this will be a close record, will have to wait for official results.
- Salty Dog Racing with John Rank driving backed up at 272 mph with his 274 mph qualifier in AA/GMR. He upped this record to 271.3 mph this morning
- Charles Nearburg changed classes and went for the A/FS Nish-Vesco record of 344 mph qualified at 349 mph, they made a quick turnaround and went 347.4 mph enough for the record.
That is close to it for record returns. The Vesco #444 car made another pass at 296 mph, just can’t get it over that 300 mph mark yet. Leo Hess made another pass in the motorcycle liner and went 211 mph and stayed upright the whole run. They are fighting some electric gremlins right now. How many times have we heard that phrase? Ohio State University made a pass at 223 mph earlier today, made another pass at 218 mph in middle mile and slowed in last mile.

Record return runs for today are towing up to the line, because of weather moving in stay tuned. Right now there seems to be about a 7-10 mph headwind. Im all over these return runs so once they start going i'll be updating.

Kent Riches made a pass looking for a 300 mph run but threw a rod in the middle mile. Ohio State Bukeye Bullett 2 Fuel Cell streamliner went 223 mph on first full pass. Charles Neurburg received entrace into the 300 mph Chapter of the 200 Club. Robert Steele JR qualified again at 201 mph in APS-G 1000cc, he had a failed return this morning. Randall Parker requalified the 1000 PP bike at 195 and change, Moto Guzzi guys failed to show up at the event for the showdown in that class. They expressed they left some more in their bike for this event? Aaron Wilson qualified his Nitro Buell at 205 mph in the APS-PF 1650cc class.
October 4, 2007 Morning
Great day for some on returns others had their problems. I have only the long course returns so far. Me having the AM 1610 Station up is like you viewers watching the site. Ron does an outstanding job in keeping everybody as well as me informed on the speeds and estimated averages.
- Mark Deluca not only yesterday became the fastest naturally aspirated bike at 223 mph but today returned just as fast, they went 228.989 just sounding crisp as hell during the run. They also showed over 230 mph on GPS.
- Moore Boys in A/GMS went down yesterday at 265 mph on the 255 mph record and returned at 254.329 mph which should be a good bump on the record.
- Ronnie Cohn should have a small bump on the E/CPRO record, he went down at 203 mph and returned at 202.998 on their own 201 mph record.
- Team Johnson with the Saltosaurus qualified at 274 mph and returned at 272 mph and ended out in the mud past the 8 mile. Should be a good record in the C/GL
- Gullett/Costello 7070 motorcycle streamliner in 350cc S/F went down at 212 mph and returned at 209 on the old 1973 Vesco record of 202 mph. Look great with the new paintjob.
- Clark/Hall/Smith/Leggitt AA/BGL went down yesterday at 316 mph on their own 309 mph World of Speed record came back at 314 mph.
- Ro Yale driving Contrivance Special B/GMR went down yesterday at 258.727 mph in the middle mile according to the results and had a mid 240 middle mile and a 251 last mile, not sure on this one.
- Charles Neurburg got his first record in the books with the #1122 A/GS. He went down yesterday at 351 on Nish 332 mph record and returned today at 349 mph.
- Salt Dogs Racing Jon Rank driving went down yesterday at 272 mph and returned at 270 mph in the AA/GMR.

These are unofficial speeds, and I missed a bunch of long course stuff. This is the stuff I got, radio communication went down from the CB at the tower, without that we are blind on everything. I got a lot of video this morning so ill try to compile some of that this morning.

Pretty nice day of runs. Plenty of qualifiers and plenty of broken cars too.
Impound area has kept Dan Warner semi busy
- Mark Deluca on Larry Forstall’s Guppy bike has become the fastest Naturally apirated bike anywhere running 223.7 mph in the 1650 APS-G class.
- Lee Guftason qualified the Hammond Roadster in D/BFMR at 261 mph on a 257.6 mph record.
- Dr Larry Mayfied running his Sunbeam had a 180 mph run on a 179 mph record.
- Gullett/Costello 7070 S-F 350cc motorcycle liner qualified on one of Don Vesco’s old records of 202 mph with a 212 mph qualifier.
- Charles Neurburg qualified the #1122 A/GS with a 351 mph qualifier on a Nish 332 mph record.
- Spensor Racing with Adrian McNain driving qualified in the E/CBGALT with a 205 on a 204 record.
- Ron Cohn qualified the Monza in E/CPRO with a 203 on his own 201 mph record.
- Bud Fab 50cc S-F streamliner qualified on an open record at 132 mph.
- Clark/Hall/Smith/Leggitt AA/BGL qualified with a 316 mph run on their 309 WOS record.
- Saltosaurus in C/GL went 274 mph with George Johnson driving on a 272 mph record.

- Jason McVicar went 236 mph in an open bike class, no fairing, in the 1350cc M-BG class.
Other news Leo Hess made his first pass down the salt and went 143 mph at the 2 ¼ and coasted thru the rest of the miles and tipped the streamliner over on the return road. A skid failure caused the tip over. Just scrapped up the body. Roger Lessman made a shakedown pass in this streamliner running natural Gas at 222 mph.
October 3, 2007 afternoon
Things have been running pretty smooth for the most part during the morning runs. Remember last update I told you that the short course had some problem in the first ½ to 1 ¼ mile, it seems that they have had to many incidents on the course and now are integrating both short and long courses to the #2 Course which is on highway side.
We have had some good qualifiers already today. Robert Steel Jr. on the APS-G 1000cc bike just inched over 200 mph on two separate passes and decided to take the qualifier of 201.552 mph on the second pass. This is on their own record from Speedweek of 199.977 mph.
- Ro Yale driving the Contrivance Special B/GMR went 258.727 on a 255 record.
- Lance Morris driving Lindsmeyer Motorsports F/BFR went 201.618
- Keith Copeland driving in C/BGMS running a twin turbo Rodex went 247 on his unofficial record of 22x. something at Speedweek. This car is under protest from Speedweek, it is a Bocar in which they are waiting on the official word or documentation that 50 of them have been made.
- Jim Busby driving the Munz/Busby XXF/STR qualified with a 153.9 on a 153.7 record.
- Shug Hanchard So What Speed Shop C/BGRMR went 180 mph on their own 174 record.
- David Pilgrim in A/BGT went 234 mph on a 212 mph record.
Other news, Charles Neurberg had a small fire in the A/BGS #122 on his first pass. The second car Spirit of Rett in A/GS went #1122 he went 203 mph on his first pass in that car. Weather has been really nice so far today. Still waiting on a status of the Ohio State University fuel cell streamliner. Dave Spangler will be driving the Vesco #444 car and is towing up to the line for a run here shortly.
October 3, 2007 AM
Very cool, calm morning for the first day of racing. Just a atypical race event from Speedweek from the standpoint of weather. People dressed in cold weather jackets, gloves, hats and even some drivers already in their driver suits and leathers. That shouldn’t be a problem at the line. I do remember an event back a few years ago when it snowed on us during the event. The forecast for Friday shows a chance of snow by the way.
The morning drivers meets was very short and sweet. National anthem started the meeting with a brief moment of silence for Wally parks who passed away recently. He was one of the founding fathers of the SCTA and the NHRA, he was 94 when he passed. So knowing that, take a moment out of your day and give Wally a moment of silence.
Pits are opening at 7am and record returns at 8 am. They will run until approx 7 pm at night. The courses are the same as Speedweek but there is a short course and long course, they will not be combined like Speedweek. Long course is a really good course, smooth and hard. The short course has some problems from the ½ mile to the 1 ½ mile. They did announce that long course vehicle will have the chance at the 7 mile to move everybody across the courses to come back to the pits if they wish. The long course is on the highway side and short course pit side.
Only CB communications for speeds as the 1610 AM station is not up. Ron Christenson who usually does the 1610 AM station at Speedweek is not here. Ron you will be missed, we all enjoy your radio announcing.
