Sounds like you're right Sid.

Marlo if anyone deserves a break.

This sucks.
We were all hoping.

Sid, the motor was built here in Camarillo, CA. All state of the art parts, then shipped to Australia. Very stout motor.

After reading this post the weather was the problem at the event, especially the wind.

Dry Lakes Racers Australia

Just to finish up what happened on the last day of Speed Week yesterday.
The day started with a 10-17mph wind from the E/NE, by 9.30 it had dropped to 7mph and we managed 8 runs for 1 car and 3 bikes.
With a sizable storm bearing in from the north it was decided to close the event for 2025.
Pickup was very challenging in 24mph winds. We did get some rain in the afternoon, but it was the wind that was the big disruptor this year.
I'd like to thank all the officials and volunteers for making this year possible, we could not do it without you.

My understanding is that there was a mix up on the reporting and the Ute ran in the 230s and the liner 259.

Marlo's luck is worse than bad! He just can't get a break. I know that he thinks the salt in Australia is the best place to really run for a big number but with all of the money he is throwing at this I wonder if he would reconsider South America? Lots of altitude but I am sure he has the ability to turn the blowers faster and the salt there is endless. I Know that we all support his effort but I would sure like to see him be someplace that they can "stand on it" 5 or 6 miles.

I have interest in going to Aus or Bolivia with my liner but I'd have to outgrow what's left of Bonneville & have a proven bullet before considering it. If it's not working here it's not going to be working there either! You have to get all the good management crap together before expecting the good luck stuff to be any help & bad luck bit me on the start line last year at SW.

Sid,
I certainly agree with your thinking regarding getting everything together at B'ville before going to Australia or Bolivia and maybe Marlo needs to take your advice and get the 555 to run fast at B'ville before spending the $ to go to Assie land.

Regarding you "incident" at Speedweek last year, we were one car behind you in line and saw the whole thing and it was certainly "Bad Luck" but I am always impressed by your "keeping your eye on the prize" approach.

375 average at the 3 just sounds fast I guess... Marlo's concern is the length of good salt for slowing and stopping.  That was the year that Les put the chutes out for a test and the salt ball behind the car was so focused by the aero that it cut through the chutes as Les put them out... the car does not slow well at 400MPH without a chute.  That's why they are now set up to go out 2 at a time, the salt is focused between them.
Driver familiarization with the vehicle was just started this year... Mike licensed up in his Ute since it would be hard to get the liner to go under 200.  He ran 230 and got his A, but the Ute had an oil scavenge problem and put a gallon out the vent tank with part of it finding the headers. The first time he sat in the car to be pushed, the officials let him touch the throttle for a clutch lock test but told him it was a push test only... wouldn't let us run to the mile.  The next step was we were allowed too take the car to the 2 1/4 and he got to run it to the 5 and parachute test... The last run he was allowed to start at the start line and he could have run to the 5 but thought the car was not accelerating hard enough and pulled the chute early.... that one showed he was at 281, 3rd gear and just under 6000 when the chutes went out.  Wind prevented more running.  They have timing to the 6 and several cars ran that far.  The course was good except they laid it out so there was a big bump after the 3.  The course inspection had found a 10 mile course that didn't include the bump, but the course layout guy had GPS numbers for the course with the bump and did not want to refigure the locations without the bump.... no he does not race and didn't see the issue  :x
I'll check with Marlo to see if it's OK to post a video

I think I got a few peoples attention with that one M8. Somebody suggested I had just set a Bonneville record for the biggest bang but it sure put a dent in my program, no pun intended!

It was obvious to me way back when running with Al that stopping was the most important part of making a 400+mph work & even back then the writing was on the wall that the salt was going away to the mining company. So with that in mind I addressed the stopping with everything I could. It has six chute tubes (that actually help close the air behind the car) with the ability to carry eight high speed chutes. I contemplated grid style air brakes but that would have put the stopping CP 70ft forward of chute location. The drivetrain can be shifted all the way back to 1st gear that has a top speed of only 75mph to use engine braking. It also has 4 wheel steel brakes to still be there coming back down with off the shelf Chevy 3500 calipers & the ability to water cool them from the front & rear coolant transfer tanks that also have oil coolers in them & counter balance the two transfer cases. I can't lock up one or more wheels without destroying driveline parts, both transfer cases are gear to gear & the Torsen diffs can't be back-driven from the axles. Wet weight of my pile of parts is 4460lb. As Al would always say, "we'll see".

I'm with you Rex. If anyone deserves a break it's Marlo. I pray he gets one.
